AP update and keep working!

Hi all, hope all are safe and well:

     We did get some information from the college board over the weekend.  The AP tests are going to be modified severely this year.  There will be no multiple-choice section and the exam will be 45 minutes of free response which we are assuming will be 3 free response questions.  We are hearing the exam will be taken from home using a secure browser, but do not know the details on that yet.  There will be two test dates an earlier one and a later one but we have not heard if that will be your choice or the schools as to when to assess.  They will be giving us more information on what the test will look like according to them by April 3rd

     They have reduced the content and taken away chapter 8-9 from the CED.  This means we have taught everything to you that is one the exam with the exception of significance tests for means, two sample tests for proportions and means, and nonlinear data which you have the online resources we posted on the blog to help you.

To read the full release you can go the college board websitehttps://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/coronavirus-update

     We will also post resources for the material that they have eliminated from the exam at a later date as it will be important for you in your future at college.  Even though they are not testing on those subjects, your college professors will expect you to be able to discuss and solve problems related to those topics.

    In addition, there will be AP review sessions run by the college board on the topics above and other topics and they can be found using the URL below.  They will be personally taught by a member of the college board and I would think give you a strong sense of what they are expecting from these missing topics if they put them as one of the FRQ’s.  We highly suggest you watch them and let them soak in.  You can watch them live or supposedly later by what they have told us.

To find the schedule of all AP Classes and when the reviews will occur you can click herehttps://apstudents.collegeboard.org/coronavirus-updates#free-ap-classes

So, remember the stuff that was assigned before we left (practice exam, benchmark review packet, book work on 9.2, is still going to be due and must be completed.)  Hopefully you worked on that stuff some last week.  If you are missing anything in gradebook, please do the work and e-mail to Ms. Straub or Mr. Halstead and we will get it in gradebook once you do so.  We have not heard anything as far as county policies on benchmarks etc… moving forward.

     As far as this week is concerned, you should then be getting back to things at a high level.  Work on the stuff that is due eventually, watch the suggested videos and notes from the blog, watch the AP videos from the college board, and practice problems from the FRQ prediction packet that we gave you since that is what the exam this year is essentially going to be.

     We will be playing with zoom this week and trying to learn it.  So hopefully by the end of the week or the beginning of next week we can have a live session where you can interact with us.  Miss you guys and know that you will work hard to keep yourself up to date as we see where we will be going from here.

Missing two weeks .. .now what

We are one section away from finishing Chapter 9. A great resource for reviewing material or learning new material is Khan Academy. They have an AP STATS section. On Monday we were going to start notes on Significance Tests for Means {One Sample t test for mu}. Here are the topics we have not yet covered in AP STATS{They are chapters 10,11,12 and 9.3}:

1. Chapter 9  Significance tests (hypothesis testing)
2. Chapter 10 Inference comparing two groups or populations
3. Chapter 11Chi-square tests for categorical data
4. Chapter 12 More on regression

None of these are required assignments. However, if you keep practicing the skills and look over the new material it will help us get back into learning much quicker when we return from our break. Remember you can always email me if you have any questions. I will get back to you as quickly as I can.

You also have the following assignments you can be working on:
Benchmark Review packet {Due when we return} - click here
9.2 bookwork {due when we return}
Practice AP Test {due 4/15}
AP Classroom Assignments {remember we are in review for the AP test mode and have been averaging one AP Classroom Assignment per week. So be sure to check AP Classroom, any AP Classrooms we assign over the break will be extra credit}

We have created an AP STATS remind:
